Degree Foundation Certificate (1 Year)

For a one(1) year Degree Foundation Certificate program entering with O/level papers, the final academic units granted on completion of the hours of study are as follows:

Bachelor’s Degree (3 Years)

For a 3 years Bachelor’s degree program entering with Degree Foundation Certificate A/level, National Diploma, NCE, etc, the final academic units granted on completion of the hours of study are as follows:

Postgraduate Diploma

For a Postgraduate Diploma program, the final academic units granted on completion of the hours of study are as follows:

Master’s Degree

For a Master’s degree program, the final academic units granted on completion of the hours of study are as follows:

Full-Time Students

Distribution of Hours of Study

The hours of study for Full-Time students at the British American University have been broken down as follows:

Lecture room attendance
Requirement:
At least 70% required.
Classroom lectures
Requirement:
2 hours for a 2 units course and 3 hours for a 3 units course per week per course.
Practical
Requirement:
1 hour per week per course.
Independent studies
Requirement:
Encouraged as Library Attendance, Home Study and Term/Research Papers.
Term Papers
Requirement:
At least 2 per course in a Semester.
Seminal/Presentations
Requirement:
At least 2 per course in a Semester.
Challenged semester examinations
Requirement:
2hours for a 2units course and 3hours for a 3units course once per course in a Semester.
Transfer of credits from other recognized Universities
Requirement:
Not exceeding 60credits per Bachelor’s program and 24credits per Master’s or Doctoral program.
Tutorial
Requirement:
1 hour per week per course.
On-line lectures
Requirement:
2 hours per day, 2 days per week.
Credit for prior experience
Requirement:
Not Allowed.
Sports
Requirement:
Once per week (12.00am to 4.00pm) on Wednesdays.
Industrial attachment/internship
Requirement:
3months once per program in some programs and 1 session (2 semesters) in some other programs like Computer Science, Engineering and Medical Related Programs.
Teaching practice (Education students only)
Requirement:
3 months twice per program.
Capstone/Final year project
Requirement:
Number of hours is left to the discretion of the Supervisor.
Note: Part-Time students also carry the same workload and spend the same number of hours of study with their Full-Time counterparts and that is why they spend more years to graduate.
