While British American University welcomes contributions from individuals, corporate bodies and the general public to come into the aid of the needy students through scholarships or sponsorships in one way or the other, the University in order to help with study offers undergraduates and postgraduates a range of scholarships and studentships for the needy students as follows:

  1. University Scholarships
    We offer a range of undergraduate scholarships awarded directly through our faculties and departments. Majority of these scholarships offer support towards tuition fees, although some may also contribute towards living costs. Competition for these scholarships is mainly based on academic performance and the number of scholarships and studentships offered varies from year to year. For entry in 2021-2022 session, there is US$2million in funding opportunities available through all the Faculties and Departments. There is a wide range of funding opportunities available, but competition is fierce and you will need to begin your enquiries in good time to meet deadlines. BAU also offers postgraduate students scholarships to give the winners the opportunity to undertake research in a stimulating interdisciplinary environment within a thriving postgraduate community. These awards may be up to 50% of the tuition fees. All departments have an international reputation for excellence in research and teaching and provide homes to some of the leading names in their respective fields. However, you will need to have received an offer of admission before your application for funding can be considered as you will need to attach a copy of your acceptance letter to your application; so have to apply for admission in good time.
  2. Prof Muhammad Omolaja Scholarship Awards
    This is a bachelor’s degree scholarship award for students admitted into undergraduate programs of the University every year for educational development particularly of the youths. This scholarship is for students who have not benefitted from other scholarship programs, and it covers 50% of tuition fees only. It does not cover other expenses associated with the degree program. The beneficiaries only need to submit a copy of their acceptance into any of the undergraduate programs at the British American University.
  3. Dean’s Award for PhD Students
    The Dean’s Award for Excellence in Postgraduate Studies recognizes outstanding doctoral research in ALL Faculties. Three awards are made annually per Faculty, one each to a student in the first, second and third year of their PhD on the basis of academic merit. However, each Faculty may also use criteria like contributions of a dedicated staff to work and University development.
  4. Master’s Bursary Awards
    BAU is pleased to offer a number of Bursary Awards for outstanding overseas students wishing to study on a taught Masters level program. The value of each award will be USD1,000 per student. These Awards will be made for one year only and are conditional on satisfactory progress during the first semester of study. These awards are administered by individual Departments. Applicants wishing to be considered for the awards should apply via the University applications process noting in the section on source of funding that they wish to be considered for a Master’s Bursary Award. To be considered for an award, applicants must hold an offer of a place to study in any Department in the University by the deadline date and should be due to commence their studies immediately. Applicants may only apply for an award for a program on which they are not already registered. This award will be allocated to successful students in the form of a fee reduction.
  5. Faculty of Management Sciences Scholarships and funding
    We know that undertaking a postgraduate program can be a significant financial commitment; and the BAU Faculty of Management Sciences is therefore making available over US$1million in scholarship funds for applicants who have been offered an admission place on one of the Faculty programs for entry during the session and who meet the Faculty scholarship criteria of Second Class Honors (Upper Division).
  6. Alumni, Academic Excellence and Program Scholarships
    BAU offers Alumni Scholarships for graduates from BAU, and in addition we have Academic Excellence and Program Scholarships for international applicants who fit other merit-based criteria. You can find further details on the individual program scholarships. The scholarship amounts will vary and are typically awarded in the amounts of 25%, but can be up to 50% of the tuition fees. These generous scholarships are provided for self-funded and part-funded applicants and are awarded on a rolling basis for as long as the funds are available. However, there is a huge demand for places on all of our postgraduate programs and so we would encourage you to make your application for your chosen program as soon as possible. Students on the scholarship award may be asked to act as a student ambassador on their program.
  7. Funded PhD Opportunities
    BAU is pleased to offer a number of studentships for PhD students. These awards will ensure that outstanding candidates have access to the University’s high-quality research training and facilities, and experienced research-active supervisors. At BAU, postgraduate research funding is available across all faculties and it may be up to 50% of the tuition fees.
  8. Graduate Assistantship Awards
    Applicants for this award must be a postgraduate student with B.Sc., BA or B.Ed. with a minimum of Second Class Honors (Upper Division). The winner may be requested to teach some courses at the undergraduate or postgraduate level. The award may be up to 50% of the tuition fees.
  9. Teaching Assistantship Awards
    Applicants for this award must be a holder of ND, NCE, Advanced Level GCE, University Diploma or an equivalent professional qualification with a minimum of Upper Credit status. The winner may be requested to teach some subjects at the British American University International School. The award may be up to 50% of the tuition fees.
  10. Discount for payment of Tuition Fees in Full
    There is automatic discount of 15% reduction in tuition fees for students that make prompt payment of their tuition fees in full every session.
  11. Discount for Prompt Registration in a Department
    There is automatic discount of 15% reduction in tuition fees for the first 10 students to register in a Department every session.
  12. Nuclear Family Awards
    This Award is only available to applicants of the same nuclear family of at least two(2) members under the University programs. In such a case, one of the members may receive up to 20% waiver of the tuition fee.
  13. Financial Assistance to the nuclear families of BAU Staff members
    BAU staff members are entitled to 50% reduction in tuition fees. This Award is only available to nuclear family members of the staff, and it does not cover other expenses.
