Recognition & Accreditation

Recognition

The British American University (BAU), Florida, USA, is a Legal Entity university recognized under the law anywhere in the world! The University was duly registered under the Law of Florida, USA, with Registration No. L18000118730, Authentication Code No. 918A00010050-051518-L18000118730-1/1 and Social Security Number (SSN) 35-2630004.

Accreditation

Higher Education Accreditation in the US is a voluntary, self-regulatory, non-governmental, peer-review process which provides a means of assisting Schools, Colleges and Universities to become stronger and better institutions by setting standards of educational quality. It is coordinated by various non-governmental accreditation commissions made up of member institutions and not by any government agency.Colleges and Universities are judged based on self-evaluations analyzing how well they meet these standards in light of their missions. Accreditation seeks to assess and enhance the educational quality of an institution, ensure consistency in institutional operations, promote self-evaluation and institutional improvement, and provide for public accountability within a peer-review framework. Accreditation promotes institutional accountability by systematically and comprehensively evaluating institutions based upon criteria established via evaluation standard.

Therefore, the US Department of Education (DOE) does not accredit Colleges and Universities. Many acrediting agencies in the US voluntrily seek recognition from the Secretary of Education but they are not required by Law to do so. Consequently, Universities and Colleges accreditation in the US and even many other countries is optional, voluntary process, and each institution may decide for itself if accreditation is appropriate and necessary to accomplish its mission. Not all Universities need accreditation from any accrediting agency. Accreditation is only mandatory for Universities that seek Federal Government educational funding. Many Universities operate as unaccredited instutions in the US, Europe, other parts of the world, and they award Diploma and degree Certificates! The degree awardees will then go and evaluate and validate their degrees from private organisations set up for that purpose, and once that is done, the validated unaccredited degrees would be as good as the accredited ones!

For Universities that want to be accredited though not mandatory, there are many regional, national and international accreditation agencies both in the USA and outside of the US. Many accreditation agencies accredit University programs (Programs Accreditation for selected specialized programs such as medicine, Nursing, Agriculture, Pharmacy, Law, Accounting, Business, Engineering, Psychology, etc) while others accredit the University itself as a whole (Institutional Accreditation) in which case all programs of the University will be considered having been duly accredited; that is, Institutional accreditation applies to the entire institution, specific programs, and distance education within the institution. Professional schools, which are often graduate schools, have separate organizations for their accreditation. However, many Universities are self-accredited to avoid infringement on their rights as separate legal entities!

Meanwhile, the Policy of the British American University, Florida, on accreditation is dicephalous; that is, partly internal and partly external accreditations. Internally, BAU has constituted the University Accreditation Committee (UAC) that considers and accredits all programs of the University every four years apart from the usual initial accreditation prior to the commencement of every new program. The membership of the UAC is as follows:

  1. Prof. (Dr.) Ijeoma Blessing Anumaka Chairman
  2. Prof. (Dr.) Murugasu Kathiah Member
  3. Dr. James Tweheyo Member
  4. Prof. (Dr.) Kenneth Rabac Member
  5. Prof. (Dr.) Mirjana Radovic-Makovic Member
  6. Prof. (Dr.) Manaj Kumar Mishra Member
  7. Prof. (Dr.) Ibrahim Bamidele Hanafi Member
  8. Prof. (Dr.) Oyebamidele Akanbi Oyeniran Member
  9. Prof. (Dr.) Joseph Bin Kuyong Member
  10. Prof. (Dr.) Joshua Foluso Oguntuase Member & Secretary

Apart from the internal accreditation responsibility, the UAC is also responsible for facilitating external accreditations, charters and licensing of the University not only in the USA where the University was first registered but also in different countries where it operates or maintains representations. Presently, all programs of the University are fully accredited internally while external accreditation process of the University is ongoing by the Education Quality Accreditation Commission (EQAC) which is one of the University Accreditation Agencies that operate internationally throughout the world! The University is currently recruiting students from California, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Iowa, Kenturkey, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Washington, and Wyoming which are all States in the USA as well as from other countries worldwide!

In summary, accreditation is a voluntary and non-governmental process, no accreditation in the world can provide automatic acceptance and degree validation of the credits earned at other institutions, nor does it guarantee the acceptance of graduates by employers. Acceptance of students or graduates is always the prerogative of the receiving institutions or employers.

As monitored on the academia.edu, over 10,000 academic papers have mentioned “British American University, Florida”, because of the global recognition and rapid growth in the popularity of the University across the world!
